The word “photography” was created from the Greek roots , photos — phos—light and graphs’, meaning drawing – in other words all smushed together – Drawing with Light.
Once I became interested in photographing everything…and anything…or anyone…I noticed light so differently. I have learned to notice the direction it was shining…the quality of it and different times of the day and how different skins and surfaces reflected the light. I believe as long as I am a photographer, I will be constantly cognizant of the light of the moment and surprised at how as a photographer, I can use the light to form an artistic and quality image.
It reminds me of a spiritual choice…that of having Jesus as my Savior…He is the only Savior. He said, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” All about God is light…He created light at creation….He was Israel’s pillar of fire…giving them light in the wilderness…as does the Savior in our world
. In Psalm 119:105 God says that His word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path. Once I discovered Jesus, I began to see life much differently. I learned to notice the presence of a spiritual aspect to life. I began to see people differently…their uniqueness and the many ways we are alike, and how we reflect the “light” of the gospel regardless of how we look, what language we talk, and where we live.
Because of Christ and what He has accomplished in my heart and life, I can draw others in to see the “light”. Jesus is that light – He has come into the world, so that you and I can really “see” life as it really is. Look for the “Light”!
