From Galway, we headed to the village of Cong. The film, The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara, was filmed mostly in this village. In this collection of images, you will see one of the houses of the town. It is along a canal and now has ivy growing across the front of it. You can also see the bridge that people were standing on at the end of the movie. The river where the priest was trying to catch the old fish is there also. It was so fun to come home and find that the film was on. We recognized several scenes that we had seen in Cong. The house where The Quiet Man lived is now in disrepair. We didn’t get to see it, and the pub is still there, looking like it did in the movie. We also saw an old abbey, the Cong Abbey. We have often watched the Quiet Man….always wishing to see Ireland…it was so beautiful in the movie..and so it is today!
